In late 1998, we started to think about moving to Europe, a desire since 1993, after our first visit to my sister's family in France, an eye-opening experience that changed us both.

Beginning in June 1999 until December 2000, we lived as U.S. expatriates in Nürnberg, Germany, a 950-year-old city located in the center of the Franconia, the northern region of Bavaria. (Can't find it on a map? Try Nuremberg or Nuernberg.)

Life as an expatriate, well, we really didn't know what to expect. Here's our Abenteuer in Deutschland (Adventure in Germany) as recorded by Frank's regular email notes to friends and family.
